Dragon Drilling specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of water boreholes. Using compact, rubber-tracked and manoeuvrable borehole drilling rigs, we can help you establish a self-sufficient water supply with minimal disruption to you or your property.
If you currently use a large volume of water and face costly meter charges from your mains supplier, a borehole can save you considerable sums of money. It also offers an excellent alternative if you have poor water quality or an unreliable supply. Sustainable in drought conditions and offering a reliable pressure, water boreholes can deliver safe, clean water direct to your property. Ideal for farms, caravan parks, leisure facilities and rural homes, water boreholes enable you to become independent of mains water. Water boreholes enable you to source natural water with no added chemicals. You do not require a license if you are extracting up to 20,000 litres of water per day.
When investing in a borehole for your property, whether commercial or domestic, we will help you assess the feasibility of an installation and also identify the potential cost savings based on your current metered charges. By using state of the art equipment to test the re-charge capabilities of a borehole, we are able to identify how much water is available at an exact site and provide a precise yield of water over a 24 hour period. For many high water users, the borehole drilling installation costs can be fully recovered within two to three years.
We provide a complete installation package, which includes a storage tank, variable speed distribution pumps, control system and, if required, water treatment. Unlike many of our competitors, once we have drilled the borehole, we install well casing and gravel, which act as a pre-filter and extend the life of the pump. We then seal the borehole from any possible surface contamination using bentonite and a custom-fabricated well head.
Our complete service includes:
Dragon Drilling uses materials of the highest standard. Our pumping and water treatment equipment comes with a twelve month guarantee and we provide a competitive annual service package to ensure all installations operate safely and efficiently.
Maintenance
At Dragon Drilling, we recommend all water boreholes are serviced and maintained regularly to safeguard their optimum and long-term performance. We offer a complete aftercare package for your entire borehole system, which ensures it continues to operate correctly, efficiently and safely. We also have the expertise to service third party borehole installations.
We are also able to attend call outs for system issues and breakdowns. We charge £50 for the call out and £40 per person per hour on-site. Please contact our office on 01824 707777 if you need to arrange a visit.
Water Quality Tests
Water abstracted from water boreholes is generally of high quality and chemical-free. However some water sources are not always fit for human consumption, agricultural or industrial use. These sources could require treatment to remove potential chemical and bacterial contaminants and impurities.
According to the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2017, a private water supply must be consistent with drinking water standards. Dragon Drilling can carry out a series of approved water quality tests to ensure your water supply is safe for human consumption and other uses. As contaminants can potentially exist in the source water and distribution system, we analyse a comprehensive range of samples to ensure the water is fit for purpose.
FAQs
The actual space required for a water borehole may be as small as a driveway. If you can get a Land Rover with a trailer to the drill location, our drilling rig should be able to gain access.
Yes, we have installed water boreholes in many urban locations.
No, once installed your water will be supplied free of charge. You will only be subject to the running cost of the pump. If you are on mains sewage, you are still required to pay for this service.
At the surface, we install an ordinary manhole cover, over which you can safely walk and drive.
We have an in-house geologist who assesses the underlying geology of the site and provides an anticipated drill depth for your borehole. At an additional cost and if required, the British Geological Survey can carry out a third party assessment. We cannot guarantee the quantity or quality of the water.
Unless specifically requested, we do not use a dowser. Instead, we utilise geology and our vast experience to locate an appropriate water supply.
Usually but not always. The water source may contain dissolved minerals that need to be removed. We recommend water quality tests are carried out and, if required, the installation of treatment systems.
Anyone is allowed to extract up to 20,000 litres per day without a licence. If you require a greater volume of water, you will need an Abstraction Permit from the Environment Agency. We can assist with all licensing matters.
A typical water borehole in North Wales is 60-80 metres deep. However, measurements are always specific to individual sites.
We operate cable percussion drilling rigs and rotary drilling rigs using compressed air or drilling fluids
For total peace of mind, we offer an annual service package that maintains your entire water borehole system.
What our Clients Say
Can you also pass on my thanks to Simon and Nathan for their work carried out on site to run as smoothly as it has.
We're very pleased with the result of stage 1 of the water borehole drilling - well done Phil and Dan.
