The Dragon Drilling Fleet: Why Equipment Matters
Within the Borehole Drilling industry, equipment is everything. As experienced drill operators and engineers, we know that not all rigs are created equally. Some borehole construction companies don’t invest the right amount of research and funds into ensuring that the equipment in their fleet is the best for the job. With different ground and rock types as well as a variation in the available space, it’s important to be able to drill a long-lasting, safe borehole.
To do this, Dragon Drilling has built a fleet that’s customised to suit the needs of a range of customers. With a fleet of 12 drilling rigs ranging from 9 tonnes up to 52 tonnes, we have the flexibility and capability to cater to commercial and domestic clients. We’ve adapted and improved the fleet; track mounting them and adding in-house modifications such as Local Exhaust Ventilation systems to avoid breathing in any unsafe airborne contaminants, and inert gas injection systems that comply with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations 2002 (DSEAR). On all of our rigs, we’ve installed our own patented dual-concentric drilling shoe to allow us to drill more effectively, increasing depth and speed whilst reducing the energy consumption.
The Dragon Drilling fleet is made up of small, medium and large rigs that enable us to always have the right equipment for the job.
Comacchio 450p
- The smallest in our fleet at 9 tonnes
- Drills to a depth of 120 metres
- Suitable for water borehole and ground source heating customers
- Best for small spaces, such as rural domestic customers, due to the maneuverability
- Uses a ‘down-the-hole’ hammer to break through rock
Fraste XL
- Weighs just over 9 tonnes
- Suitable for site investigation work, water borehole drilling and ground source heating projects
- Drills to a depth of 200 metres
- Uses a ‘down-the-hole’ hammer to break through rock
- Useful for unstable ground (such as sand) as it can use fluid to drill and hole the borehole open
Comacchio MC30
- Weighs 33 tonnes
- Drills to 1km depth
- Suitable for site investigation work, water borehole drilling and ground source heating projects
Comacchio MC3000
- Weighs 52 tonnes
- Used for landfill drilling in the event that there are no space constraints.
- Two of these rigs in the Dragon Drilling fleet
Pilcon Cable Percussion Rig
- A different drilling method suitable for softer ground
- Used when there is no expectation of rock.
Without the fleet that we have, Dragon Drilling wouldn’t be able to provide the exceptional level of quality and service that we do to commercial and domestic customers alike. No matter the size of the job, we’re here to help. Get in touch with us today.
